If you're heading to college, one of the places on your shortlist should be the University of Miami. Founded in 1925, this private institution accepts just over 10,000 undergraduates and 5,000 grad students, taught by a faculty of 2,348, 97% of which hold doctorate or terminal degrees. Programs of study are varied, and include a medical school, a law school, and several undergraduate programs including architecture, music and business.

picturesque main campus in Coral Gables (south of Miami), sprawls across 260 acres, and apartment-ites looking for digs in this area might be put off by the high prices of this swanky neighborhood. So if apartment-hunting isn't quite your cup of tea, you've got some great options for on-campus living in this area@ the Eaton, Hecht, Mahoney, Pearson and Stanford Houses all offer their own version of the ultimate UM experience. Each dorm is thankfully within 5 minutes' walking distance of the metrorail, a university centre or a convenience store, but there are two large dining halls shared amongst the houses.
